Created in 1913, the National Institute of Agricultural Research of Tunisia (INRAT) is a public institute under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries. The permanent personal staff accounts for 350, of which 80 are scientists holding a PhD diploma. The breeding program of INRAT is very ancient and has delivered more than 130 improved varieties of different cereal and forage field crops. Another well-performing lab is the laboratory of animal and forage production that will be involved in MEDGOAT.
WP2- Survey on local goat management under different production systems (data and samples collection, analysis). Study of gene expression in goats under combined stresses (water restriction, salinity, heat) - Association of Gene Expression and Performance of Local Goats in Tunisia. - Microbiome: Analysis of microbial shifts in the rumen under different stresses. WP5 ( Characterization of feeding practices and estimation of goat farming systems' carbon and water footprint - Evaluation of goat response to drinking water restriction and salt tolerance - Evaluation of the effects of alternative feed resources on goat performance, GHG emissions, waterConsumption and heat stress in continental and Mediterranean climatic zones - Design adapted management practices to reduce water consumption and mitigate GHG emissions, or heat stress in goat farming systems) / WP6 (omics-characterization of the effects of alternative feed resources on goat production).
